You may enjoy a challenge and depending upon your building skills, relish the opportunity to build your own pizza oven. There are a few important things to factor in, the most essential is the shape of the dome to optimise air circulation so the oven heats up fast attaining the high temperatures required for cooking great pizzas. Good quality insulation is another important element. Domes and arches are not the easiest things to build, particularly if you have little experience of these complex structures.
There are various kits on the market to enable you to build your own pizza oven, but this new product, designed in the Britain, is probably the simplest to build!
The kit comprises precast sections, a stainless steel flue, painted mild steel arch and door, silicone, fire cement, insulation, a state of the art coloured shell, assembly instructions and curing information.
Once you have built a suitable plinth for your pizza oven, fix the pre-cut insulation board with a small amount of the supplied silicone.
There are five precast sections for the dome and five for the floor, all with a simple interlocking design that merely need tapping gently together with a soft mallet before going around the joints, inside and out, with the fire cement included with the kit. Each section is easy enough for one person to lift.
The innovative composite outer shell is weatherproof, UV resistant and comes in a choice of four fabulous colours – Copper, Graphite Grey, Cotswold Green or Ivory – so you can integrate your oven with your outdoor colour scheme.
As the shell incorporates the insulation, just place this over the dome. Fix the arch to the front of the dome with silicone, insert the stainless steel flue and bead all edges to make the oven waterproof.
The unique outer shell is made from a heat resistant resin so, unlike other pizza ovens which need to be cured at the start of each season, once you have cured your oven before first use, you will not need to do it again.
Your finished oven will heat up in under an hour. Capable of achieving a maximum temperature of 600°C, it has excellent thermal properties and will retain heat for long periods, so residual heat can be used to slow roast joints, for casseroles, etc. Able to cook one large 12” pizza or 2 small 10” pizzas at a time, the internal dimensions of the oven are 77cm deep x 60cm wide x 30cm high.
This kit is very heavy at 160kg, although the individual components can easily be dealt with by one person. It is supplied with full assembly instructions, details of the curing process and delivered on a pallet by courier.
* Superb quality * Probably the simplest self-build kit * Fabulous value * Only needs curing once before first use, not at the start of each season * Separate components are not too heavy for an individual to lift * Unique weatherproof outer shell in a choice of colours * Designed and made in Britain *
