We are all aware of the struggle endured by much of our wildlife and one of those in trouble is the hedgehog, whose numbers have declined by over a third in the last 10 years.
Apart from feeding hedgehogs and/or providing them with shelters, hibernation and nest boxes, there is one very simple thing we can do to help them. Hedgehogs travel around a mile each night in their quest to find food and a mate. Since our fences and walls have become more secure, this has reduced the distances they can travel.
By making holes in or under garden fences and walls, we can remove some boundaries which may be contributing to their demise. A hole 13cm x 13cm is the optimum size for hedgehogs to pass through, but too small for most pets.
This hole plate is designed to cover a hole in a fence or wall providing a neat and attractive finish, and ensuring the hole does not get accidentally blocked.
Made from UV stabilised recycled plastic so it will not rot or degrade, the Eco Hedgehog plate has 6 screw holes for easy mounting.
By opening up your fences or walls hedgehogs can increase territory to find sufficient food and a suitable breeding partner. They will return the favour by eating your slugs and snails!
Also available in a twin pack, so you can provide an opening on either side of your garden.
