This large St Bernard Dog weathervane has a quality, durable finish. To increase the adhesiveness of paint and prevent corrosion, the 1.5mm thick steel has been treated with a metal phosphate solution then powder coated with black polyester paint for a sleek finish.
The UV stabilised polyester paint has a high solid content and so adds strength, making the weathervane less susceptible to scratching and chemical cleaning.
The name, St Bernard, originated from the Great Saint Bernard Hospice, a traveller’s hospice in the Western Alps between Switzerland and Italy. Before this time the dogs were called “Saint Dogs”, “Noble Steeds”, “Alpenmastiff” or “Barry Dogs”.
Known for its large size, these dogs were bred for rescue work by the Great Saint Bernard Hospice which acquired its first dogs between 1660 and 1670. Amiable, yet hard workers, these gentle giants have a calm, patient, loyal and affectionate demeanour and live to please their master.
