This large black weathervane shows a leaping dolphin and is made from 1.5mm thick steel. The steel has been treated with a metal phosphate solution to increase the adhesiveness of paint and prevent corrosion then powder coated with a polyester paint for a sleek finish.
The polyester paint has a high solid content and therefore adds strength, making the weathervane less susceptible to scratching and chemical cleaning. It is also UV stabilised.
Dolphins encompass a large and diverse species, varying in size from 1.7m long to 9.5m. They are highly social animals and vocalise through a series of clicks and whistles along with nonverbal communication by means of touch and posturing.
Often regarded as one of the most intelligent animals, dolphins have been known to teach their young learned behaviour such as covering their snouts with sponges to protect them whilst foraging. They are also known to be compassionate, looking after injured or ill individuals, even across species and have also been seen protecting swimmers in difficulty.
Its torpedo shaped body, bulbous head, flippers and tail fin is instantly recognisable with this weathervane, showing dolphin leaping.
